This is a book about courage. The courage that children show in accepting that they have cancer. This is a book about determination. Their determination to understand the disease and to fight against it. It is a book about confidence. The confidence that they will win this battle. This book was born of the memory of childhood encounters with cancer. It has been touched by the pain, that is the disease’s faithful shadow. It is inspired by the hope, that glows in the eyes of suffering little children – and by the belief that this hope must always be kept alive, in order that cancer may be defeated. This book asks for no sympathy. Makes no promises. Just describes the experience of a little child… simply, without pathos, and with a glimmer of humour, that is like the sun breaking through the clouds.
